シングルマザー営業職を経て行政書士になるまで～Gyoseishoshi Lawyer’s Resume

Last month, two gentlemen living in Tokyo who has just passed the Gyoseishoshi Lawyer examination and Gyoseishoshi Lawyer in Kyoto politely contacted our office that they’d like to make an appointment to visit Hitomi Law Office.

先月、行政書士試験に合格された東京の方と京都の行政書士の先生から、行政書士法人ひとみ綜合法務事務所を訪問されたいという丁寧なご連絡を頂きました。

Up till the COVID-19 crisis, the client usually met at our office, which tended to be easier for us to work with, but during COVID-19, we are taking careful steps to improve the safety of our employees, our customers and our business by remote-work and remote participation in a meeting.

コロナ前は、仕事場である行政書士事務所に来て頂く方が都合が良かったのですが、コロナ禍においてはスタッフ、お客様の安全を守るため極力リモートワークを推進しています。

Although the COVID-19 vaccine is now available, it will take months before everyone has the opportunity to get vaccinated and the more people we interact with at a gathering and the longer that interaction lasts, the higher the risk of becoming infected, so we planed a safer gathering at a coronavirus-safe hotel in the heart of Osaka; InterContinental Osaka which is located steps from Osaka station with about half members of our office.

新型コロナウィルスのワクチン接種は始まっていますが、十分行き渡るには数か月かかるでしょう。集まる人数が多いほど、また一緒にいる時間が長いほどリスクが高まります。
いろいろと検討した結果、行政書士事務所のスタッフ半数ほどで、徹底したコロナ対策がなされている便利な立地のインターコンチネンタル大阪で本日お会いすることになりました。

Gyoseishoshi Lawyer Masaki Kawanami is in the back of the picture with his white mask. He’s been running his own legal practice in Kyoto for about 20 years to help people including foreigners in various scenes of their daily lives while making the most of his extentive experience in international fields and language or professional skills.

I see many young people hopping from company to company as if they believe that is the way to advance their career but I was more impressed by these two gentlemen’s steay way of living which made me to share the story of shameful experience of mine. I thought it may encourage someone as I think I would have been in the midst of all that was happening.

キャリアアップのため転職を繰り返す若い人も多い時代ですが、私は今日お会いしたお二人の堅実な生き方に感銘を受けました。
そして、このブログをどこかで読んで下さる誰かを、励まし勇気付けることができるかもしれないと、行政書士の私自身の少し恥ずかしい過去についても書きたくなりました。

I’m not sure how common bullying in early childhood is but anyway, actually I really don’t have very good memories of my elementary and junior high shool days in Japan.

私は子ども時代、小中学校の頃の良い思い出、記憶というものがあまりないのです。

I have heard once that for many students, thinking about what to wear to school can be a major source of stress; not having certain brand name or fashionable clothing compared with other students, but mine was a bit different. I hadn’t always had access to clean clothes until at least 8 or 9 years old when I had learned how to wash my clothes.

多くの児童・生徒にとって、学校に着ていく服を選ぶことが大きなストレスになり得るというのは、よくある話かもしれません。ただ、子どもの頃の私の悩みは、他の子と比べてブランド服やおしゃれな服を持っていないといったことではなかったのです。小学校中学年頃まででしょうか、自分で服を洗えるようになるまでは、清潔な服を着て学校に行くことができない日も、少なくありませんでした。

My old classmates might be simply having fun and not trying to hurt me, but the word ‘you smell’ or ‘when did you wash your clothes?’ did cause me loss of self-esteem and deep anxiety and depression. One negative affect about being a victim of bullying in my childhood was that I had become paranoid and not know who to trust.

昔のクラスメートたちは、もしかしたら単に私をからかっていただけであって、傷つける意図はなかったのかもしれません。でも、「お前臭いよ」とか「いつ服洗ったの？」といった言葉は、子どもだった私の自尊心を喪失させ、それはそれは、落ち込んだものです。幼少期にわりと長期間いじめに遭ったことによる負の影響の一つで、私は猜疑心が強くなって人を信用できなくなっていました。

My first real adventure overseas escaping from bullying in Japan began when I visited my penpal in Vancouver, Canada at the age of 13 just by myself. Then I spent about a year in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States as an exchange student at the age of 15.

日本のいじめから逃れるように、私は海外へ冒険の旅に出ました。１３歳のときにカナダ・バンクーバーの文通相手を単身で訪ね、１５歳で交換留学生としてアメリカ・ユタ州へ行きました。

Although student loan debt had long been a burden with the monthly payment, but it was fortunate there was basically no limit to how much an individual student may borrow for education costs; I had borrowed nearly \10,000,000 in federal student loans and also the one bank offers now I’ve all paid off.

毎月の返済は重荷でしたが、一学生が利用できる奨学金の総額に限度額が実質なかったことは、私にとっては幸いでした。社会に出るまでに、育英会と銀行から１千万近くの奨学金を借りました（すべて完済）。

After my university studies at Internatinal Christian University (commonly known as ICU which is unique for being a fully bilingual campus, the classes are held in either English or Japanese and ranks as the best Japanese private university by 2020 TImese Higher Education Japan University Rankings. Its notable alumni include Princess Mako of Akishino and Princess Kako of Akishino.), I first worked for a Recurit Group which I loved its value based on respecting individual differences.

国際基督教大学（通称ＩＣＵ、日英両言語で授業が行われるバイリンガルキャンパスとして名高く、英教育専門誌「タイムズ・ハイヤー・エデュケーション」策定の世界大学ランキング日本版では私立大学中１位に認定されました。秋篠宮眞子様と秋篠宮佳子様の出身大学でもあります）で学んだのち、リクルートグループに就職しました。リクルートグループの、個性を尊重する企業姿勢が大好きでした。

The sweetness, however, soon came to an end when my little girl got injured at nursly school while I was working till late at night everyday. I’m sure there were thousands of people who’d have loved to have my position as a member of Recruit Group but I found myself being much happier and calmer when I was with my little daughter as I was a single mother and there was no one else but me who can take care of her.

ただ、充実したリクルート社での日々は長く続きませんでした。小さな娘を保育所に預けて毎晩遅くまで働いていましたが、ある日娘が保育所で怪我をしてしまったのです。リクルート社を辞めるなんてもったいないと多くの人に言われましたが、当時の私にとっては娘と一緒にいる時間が何より貴重で優先したいものでした。

The legal profession is no small task and passing the Gyoseishoshi Lawyer examination generally requires years of strenuous effort and it may cost a lot to cover the vocational school fee and so on.

法律の専門家になるということは容易いことではなく、行政書士試験に合格するためには、数年にわたり真剣に勉強し、専門学校などの費用も結構かかるというのが一般的でしょう。
